Question 1 a

1. We spoke about Plain English writing in class. Please answer the following in detail:

a. How would you explain to someone what “Plain English writing” is? (3 Marks)

Plain English Writing is the simplifying of a statement so it is more concise, clear, and understandable. According to class slideshows, writing in Plain Language is incorporating common everyday words, “You” and other pronouns and short statements into your sentences. Using Plain Language will allow for the readers to find the content more enjoyable, easy to read and easily understandable. Writing in Plain Language is not “dumbing” a sentence down for the lowest common denominator, it is rather making a sentence more enjoyable to read. “Plain-language documents are accessible and present information in a way that is easy to absorb. Because they use short sentences and common words, plain-language documents allow every member of the audience to understand the piece in a single read” (AACSB.edu).
