This headline from Rolling Stone resonated with me personally because I am a big fan of Olivia Rodrigo. I have been a fan of hers since her hit single “Driver’s License” came out in 2020. Olivia Rodrigo gained lots of popularity in 2020 and has released 2 very well received albums since. Containing her name in the headline is eye-catching and intriguing. Not only was I attracted to this headline because of the mention of Olivia Rodrigo but also due to the specific wording used in the headline. The headline contains a sense of mystery which entices the reader to read the rest of the article. Developing a headline that entices readers to follow through with the reading is a difficult task. A great headline should not reveal too much about the article. To intrigue interest, the headline must give minimal information but still capture attention. This headline in particular explains that Olivia Rodrigo is not the same girl that she used to be but the headline gives no reason to why she has changed. This is why the headline is so intriguing and makes the reader want to read on. Although this headline does not include power words, it makes up for it with the fact that it has a sense of mystery involved. This headline gives a specific reason as to why you should continue reading the content. The reason being, to find out what has changed about Rodrigo. It is also written in plain language and is a very easy read. Simple words making up a simple sentence allows for readers to understand exactly what is intended to mean. Plain language is crucial to a great headline because most people’s reading level is no more than Grade 7. A concise headline is very effective. Utilizing plain language can ensure that the headline will reach all audiences without difficulty. There is no difficulty while reading the headline which is beneficial. I think this headline was well written as it contains plain language, mystery, and does not reveal too much about the topic.
